RAM
Today RAM is one of the cheapest upgrades a person can do to their computer to boost performance. Every time a person starts their computer, data is loaded into RAM, and every time the computer is shut off RAM is emptied. Therefore, every application running on your computer is stored in RAM. RAM speed is measured in MHz just as is the processor, but currently does not exceed speeds of 400 MHz. There are three different types of RAM used today which acheive different levels of speed based on the processor used. SDRAM is rated at speeds of 66, 100, and 133 MHz. DDR RAM is based off of SDRAM but with 2 channels so it is rated at 200 (100*2), 266 (133*2), 333 (166.5*2), and 400 MHz (200*2). The final type of RAM that is used in some Intel systems today is Rhambus memory (not supported by AMD). It had great performance but it cost to high to produce so it quickly faded out of the market. When it comes to your system, this is the amount of RAM I would recommend. For users of Windows 98 and Windows ME I would recommend at least 128MB of RAM. For users of Windows XP, at least 256MB of RAM.
